Rules for WFUMB Scholarships
A WFUMB Scholarship has been established in 2001.
The aim of the Scholarship is to improve the capability within Medical Ultrasound.
Three scholarships of up to USD 5000 may be given to three individual members of WFUMB each year.
Preconditions of the Scholarship: Medical doctors, younger than 40 years of age working in developing countries and having basic experience in Medical Ultrasound.
Application for the WFUMB Scholarship shall include:
1. Reason for application including plans for future activities within Medical Ultrasound 2. Curriculum Vitae relevant to Medical Ultrasound 3. Any publications relevant to Medical Ultrasound 4. Any certifications relevant for Medical Ultrasound
5. Letters of recommendation from for example Hospital, Medical School, National Society 6. Information about medical specialty and language 7. Information about the specific training program he/she wishes to attend 8. If the applicant has been in contact with a specific Institution/school, the name and contact address of the school shall be mentioned.
9. A letter of acceptance from the Institution or an officially acknowledged US school shall be presented 10. If the applicant has not been in contact with a specific school he/she can inquire about referred institutions and/or countries. WFUMB may be able to recommend a suitable place for the study.
Institutions accepting WFUMB fellows should waive to tuition fees.
Application shall be sent to the Secretary of WFUMB by regular mail, e-mail or fax.
The applications will then be sent to and discussed in the WFUMB Education Committee.
Selections based on the recommendations of the Education Committee will take place at the next Meeting of the WFUMB Executive Council.
No official application form is needed.
An official letter acknowledging the award will be sent to the fellow by WFUMB President/Education Committee Chair; at this moment the recipient has to sign the statement that he/she agrees that WFUMB is to be held not liable for any accidents, crimes, financial losses or mishaps that may befall the recipient. A medical insurance covering the training period is recommended and could be reimbursed within fellowship.
Duration of the fellowship: a duration of at least three months is recommended. Scholarship is valid for one year from the time the applicant is notified.
Reimbursement : reimbursement will be done on the basis of receipts regarding travel fees and accommodation. Partial reimbursement (e.g. plane ticket) can be done on request not earlier than the starting of the training period in the guesting Institution.
Final report: the fellow has to send a final report regarding his/her stage to WFUMB Education Committee. Total reimbursement will be done after receiving the final report.
Certification: Scholarship is certified first from the letter from WFUMB President notifying the award, and second by a certification from the guesting Institution attesting the attendance and also reporting an evaluation of the fellow activity. This latter certification has to be sent to Education Committee and to the WFUMB President together with fellow final report.
